Take heart, post-holiday depressives. July is Gin & Tonic Month over at Kegworks.
Forgetting the fact that it’s two-months too late and three-months too short, KW is still among my favorite online joints for booze-slinging accoutrements. Check out their fine (though sadly Peychaud’s-less) selection of cocktail bitters, cool cocktail books, and real tonic waters.
From a promotional standpoint, I can’t quite figure out what Gin & Tonic Month means exactly. But it does present a fine opportunity to out those regular supermarket tonics as the garbage they are.
Sure, a splash of Schweppes’ll do in a pinch. But if you’re gonna drop $25−$30 on a bottle of good London dry, are you really cool with drowning all those delicate botanicals in a sugary glass of HFCS-packed sody pop? You want some grenadine in your Scotch too?
I haven’t sampled all of Kegworks’ offerings, but I can certainly offer the A.D. Stamp of Awesomeness to Fever Tree, a clean, hyper-effervescent and not-too-sweet complement to any gin you can throw at it.
Yeah. It costs a lot. But here’s the thing: You won’t drink as much. Which leaves you more money to spend stocking up on the cheap stuff. Which you can drink more of. Because you shouldn’t.
Drinking is complicated.
